When you find yourself in the need of a great new compound miter saw that is powerful and portable, look no further than the DeWalt DW713. With a 15 amp motor that packs 5,000 RPM, this saw is able to handle just about any job you throw its way.

The bevels at 3 to 48 degrees give an increased cutting capacity, and the machined base fence support helps to maintain fence alignment so that your cuts are extremely precise. For added accuracy, there are 11 positive stops on the adjustable stainless steel detent plate. As for vertical cutting capacity, the DeWalt DW713 tears through 3-1/2 inch crown molding nested vertically and 3-1/4 inch base vertically.

An important aspect of every saw is it’s ability to be versatile, which is exactly what the DeWalt DW713 is all about. As far as 10” compound miter saws go, the DeWalt DW713 is a great choice due to its highly accurate miter gauge and ability to pack a ton of power into a compact machine. The 15 amp motor with 5,000 RPM is where the power comes from, and the 3-48 degree bevels, 11 positive detent plate stops, and miter cam lock system ensure durability and precision.

“I did a lot of on-line shopping for a miter saw, read the forums on the American Woodworker site, etc. Finally decided on the DeWalt 10″. The one point that kept bugging me was the lack of a laser, since it seems like every other brand has them. Then I read about issues with alignment, and decided to go with the DeWalt and the LED light add-on. Works great. You get a clear line where the blade cuts, including the width of the cut. Great design.

First thing I did was put a square on it to make sure the 0 was right, and it was dead-on. Both 45’s are on, also. Haven’t gotten to play with the bevel much yet, but it works easy enough.

Table is nice and flat, whole thing is very solidly built. Carry handle is a nice touch, much easier to carry around.

Another point- the standard 40T blade they give you with the saw makes some really nice, clean cuts. I had planned on getting a fine-cut blade for doing my 1/2 round trim, but so far, the 40T is working perfectly. ”

If you ask any professional who works with miter saws, they’ll most likely know exactly what the Makita LS1040 is, and probably have many positive things to say about it. This 10-inch compound miter saw weighs only 24.2 pounds, which makes it one of the most portable saws in its class. Built with a machined aluminum base, dual aluminum base, dual slide rails, and carbide tip blade, the Makita LS 1040 is of the utmost durability.

The dual-post pivoting arm is extremely sturdy, and the pivot fence allows extreme versatility because it can support large stock or flip back for bevel cuts. The bevels go 45 degrees to the left or 52 degrees right, which means there’s a wide variety of cuts. The bevel has 9 positive stops at 15, 22-1/2, 30, 45 degrees left or right, and 0 degrees, which means your most frequent cuts are easy to achieve.

The great thing about this fine adjust is that it allows for one hand operation, which means that you can have one hand on the material while the other hand is making the adjustments. This has a self zeroing system that works on the entire miter angle range, which means any angle you want to cut, you can.

There are dual integral jobsite lights that illuminate the material you’re working with and the cut line from both sides of the blade, so that you can actually see the blade entering the workpiece.

“I have been using a Hitachi C10FS for many years now and have been very pleased with its performance. I have no complaint with my Hitachi but have had on occasion the need for a 12″ capacity. I had previously looked at the Hitachi 12″ slide miter at Lowes, but was unimpressed with the gadgets and the saw seemed to flex and wander. The quality was also lacking in the Dewalt, and I had pretty much decided on the Makita LS1214, and was prepared to purchase one when Milwaukee came out with their 6955-20. Home Depot had them in stock so I was able to evaluate the fit, finish, stability and check out the flex, wander and general quality of the saw. I was very impressed. Although the saw was manufactured in Taiwan and not in the US, the quality seemed every bit the standards I have come to expect from Milwaukee on their previous domestically produced tools.

This saw is top notch! Smooth, very powerful, accurate and very well-built. I mounted this saw on a Ridgid miter stand and can setup and take down in seconds. Everything was well adjusted from the factory, only a minor adjustment of one of the bevel angle indicators needed to be corrected. The digital readout has proven useful, especially on those not so square, stain grade joints that must be perfect. The motors Constant Power Technology has a different feel when cutting, but performs flawlessly. I am glad they decided to forgo the laser gimmick in lieu of the dual lights which proved to be more valuable than I had anticipated. The depth paw stop has proved very handy a couple of times already, when having to switch back and forth from full to partial depths on a job.
I have some Milwaukee tools that are over 30 years old, only having to replace rotting electrical cords or brushes. I would not be surprised to find this tool falling into the same category… ”

If you tried to find a saw that combines accuracy, sturdiness, power, versatility, user-friendliness, and great features all in one, you’d find yourself looking at the Bosch 4410L. Although this isn’t one of the most portable saws, weighing in at 55 pounds, the weight is due to the wide footprint that adds stability and sliding extensions that increase the support area to 37-1/7 inches.

The Bosch 4410L miter saw is a dual bevel, which means that it swings 47 degrees left and 46 degrees right for an exceptionally wide range of cutting capacity. There are positive bevel stops in each direction at 31.6 and 33.9 degrees, which help with perfectly precise crown molding cuts. As for miter cuts, the blade swings 52 degrees left and 60 degrees right, and you can even override this by up to 2 degrees.

The power in the Bosch 4410L is seen in the 15 amp motor which runs at a high 4,800 RPM. With this 3-horsepower motor, you can have confidence in your saw’s ability to perform several different cuts through various materials. However, it’s mandatory that you understand how to use the saw so that you can take full advantage of its features. Make sure you read the owner’s manual first because there’s a lot that this saw can do that other miter saws can’t and you’ll want to know how to use it properly.

The Speed-track sliding fence is 4 inches tall and has an inch-scale on it, which makes it perfect for handling pieces of crown molding up to 6 inches wide. The controls on the Bosch 4410L are amazing, too. The handle can be locked into any of four positions, which means that whether you’re a lefty or righty and prefer the handle vertically or horizontally, you can be happy and comfortable. There’s also a bevel lever that makes adjustments quick and easy. Possibly the most helpful feature is the laser cutting guide, which ensures you know exactly where you’re about to cut so that you don’t make any mistakes.

The truly great thing about the Bosch 4410L is all of its amazing features that not only make sawing easy, but productive. Not only is there the adjustable handle, laser cutting guide, and up-front controls, but a 15-amp motor, positive bevel stops, and wide range of cutting capacity. You cannot go wrong with the Bosch 4410L.

As a person new to Bosch tools, Jim Roman was skeptical over whether he should try the Bosch 4410L or a Makita. After choosing this saw, he couldn’t be happier with the results he has seen. Check out his review:

“I have never owned a Bosch tool before but was looking to upgrade my 10″ miter saw with a slider. I struggled with the decision to get a 10 or 12 inch and settled on this 10. I chose it over the 12 for several reasons. It’s lighter, blades are cheaper, the saw is cheaper, smaller blades have less deflection, not a huge cutting advantage in the larger 12″.

The saw is definitely a quality piece of machinery and cuts extremely well. Other reviewers hacked on the stock blade and accuracy but I found both exceptional. The sliding mechanism is smooth and slop free, the blade has no bearing movement as older versions had a concern with. I love the laser for many cuts but don’t use it if I am looking to be within 1/32nd. The switch handle is 3 position adjustable for different grips, table is smooth with solid detents, well written owners manual, up front controls, nice fence and extensions, onboard tool storage, nice quick clamp system, well positioned carry handles, the saw is well marked with how to stickers.

I didn’t find anything on this saw that didn’t work the way it was suppose to or felt cheaply made. I almost went with the Makita because some of the “pros” didn’t like this saw, I’ll never look back.”
